IP/IT Associate - Life Sciences


Consult Legal are partnered with a Top 50 Law firm in the search for an IP/IT Associate to join their Life Sciences team in Cambridge.

The Firm

The Life Sciences team specialises in providing advice and bringing extensive legal, scientific and industry specific insights to clients in the medical device, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector in relation to Intellectual Property and IT matters.

The team advises across the full breadth of IP rights including patents, designs, trade marks, copyright and rights in confidential information. They have an extensive transactional IP practice and advise on all types of agreements which focus on IP or have a strong IP element including patent, know how, trade mark and copyright licences (both in- and out- licensing), collaboration agreements (including framework collaboration agreements) and research and development agreements.  In addition, the team handles large-scale acquisitions and disposals of IP assets.  Our clients range from small and medium sized businesses to larger plcs and include a number of public sector and charitable institutions, in each case across a broad range of industry sectors, such as life sciences, IT, chemicals, manufacturing, publishing and retail. We also provide IP strategy advice to our clients.

The team also has strong expertise in litigation matters encompassing patent litigation, trade mark and passing off litigation and trade mark oppositions, design right infringement, copyright infringement and breach of confidentiality, as well as significant experience with cross-border IP litigation.  The firm is particularly known for our copyright, design and trade mark infringement work in the fashion, retail and publishing sectors, and for our patent disputes work in the life sciences sector. They have a substantial international trade mark practice, managing the portfolios of major brand owners.

The team has extensive knowledge of IT and telecommunications including drafting and negotiation of legal terms and conditions as well as going 'under the bonnet' of project negotiations and strategy.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will act for a wide range of clients from SMEs to multi-nationals across IP and IT matters. You will specialise in working with clients in the Life Sciences sector such as medical devices, pharmaceutical and biotechnology.

The firm offers top-level training and development for employees and therefore the successful candidate will be able to increase their skill-level as well as progressing up the ladder of seniority.

The Candidate:

We are looking for an individual to be situated in the firm's Cambridge office. The successful candidate will be an individual with at least 3 years' PQE, with excellent academics and experience in a well-regarded life sciences team.
